Mr. Combs is now in his eleventh year as director of music at Ocean View High School. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Conservatory of Music at Biola University (2005) and his Master of Arts in Music Education degree from the University of Southern California (2008).
Under his direction, the band program has more than doubled in size and quality, with the concert band and jazz bands winning numerous awards throughout Southern California, and the marching band winning four state championships in their division (2010, 2011, 2012, 2017).
When he’s not at school investing in the lives of his students, Mr. Combs also enjoys scuba diving, cycling, and competing in triathlons. His greatest joy, however, comes from spending time with his beautiful wife and daughters.
Mr. Robert J. Briggs

Mr. Robert J. Briggs is the man behind the magic of the Seahawk Squadron’s Fall field shows. He designs the shows from the turf-up and also acts as Mr. Combs’s right-hand man. R.J. Briggs designs the field show’s drill, concept, and visual effect. As a professional trumpet player, he has a huge influence in the education of Squadron members through acting as a brass coach, leading the ensemble, and continuously cleaning the marching technique of the band. Mr. Briggs is also Ocean View alumni himself, so keep an eye out for him playing in the pep band at football and basketball games!

Ceasar & Adrian’s styles of instruction are very complementary and have greatly served the guard here at Ocean View. Under their combined instruction, the students continue to improve their skills and their understanding of the activity season after season.

Ms. Johnson is a 2012 alumnae of the Seahawk Squadron, and brings great dedication to the program. After leading the Squadron to their first ever High Percussion award at State Championships as drum captain her senior year, she went on to earn her teaching credential from ASU and has returned maintain the tradition of excellence at her Alma Mater.
